Welcome to CozyCrafted.com!I am a 79 old retired fighter/U-2 pilot from the Air Force. I started woodturning in 1974 with a small Carba-Tec mini lathe making small stuff like pens and perfume pens. In 1996 I bought a One-Way large lathe and started branching out. Over the years I have submitted award winning wood designs, turned on my lathes, to the Texas State Fair Creative Arts Division and have won: First place in Bird Houses, first place in Wood-Turning, 2 seconds in Wood-Turning, and 1 third in Wood-Turning in 2004 for my Pepper & Salt Mills in segmented/open segmented design.
I am now concentrating on the Mills. I have used the following woods in the Mills:Birds-eye Maple, Bocote, Cherry, Mahogany, Hard Maple, Purple Heart, & Walnut. I have also use Rutland Plywood Colorwood & Dymondwood. In some of the segmented designs I use different colors of veneer as separations between each segment and each stacked segment ring as part of the buildup of the Mills. You can find detailed information at: Rutland Plywood about Colorwood and Dymondwood. Cozy Crafted, or C squared is my logo. I am using 12 segments for each ring in my Mill designs that are 1/2" thick. From this you can see that there are 497 pieces of segments and veneer in one 10" Mill. The process starts with cutting precise pieces of wood to meet the segment sizes, so that the miter cut on my Delta Unisaw is very accurate. These segments and veneer pieces are glued up with Titebond III and clamped together in the ring size desired.
